Brief description of Mining skill in Darkfall Online

Many of my friends in Darkfall Online have asked questions about mining since I have become quite good at it. Mining in DarkFall Online is actually quite simple, as no actual knowledge about geology is required, and no recipes or special training is necessary within Darkfall itself.
Mining in Darkfall online produces two primary resources: stone, metal, and gems.
Darkfall has mining 'resource nodes' which are locations at which one can use their
mining skill to obtain materials.
Rock nodes will yield stone that's used primarily in city building, and gems that are used in crafting.
Metal nodes will yield iron ore that can be smelted in iron ingots, or sulfur which is a reagent used in spell casting.
